Activities > Closing remarks from candidate forum Closing Remarks I taught my children to play fair, work hard, and respect their neighbors. I taught them to take responsibility for their actions and to clean up after themselves. Those are my family values.
We should expect nothing less of ourselves, of each other, and of those who hold the public trust.
When I see a need, I try to remedy it.
And so when Nick’s friends came over and talked about college when they got out of the Marines, I helped them explore their options. I realized that they were not alone, so I planned and implemented a college fair for veterans of the Afghan and Iraqi wars.
When students tell me that they can’t see their way out of a crisis, I listen to them and question them and discuss alternatives with them, and a path begins to emerge.
We can’t afford to look away, ignoring problems that get worse every day. We need to protect our children, our economy, and public treasures like the Bay.
As a delegate, I will do just that.
I will work to pass laws that represent justice for all;
I will work to protect the safety and security of our citizens;
I will continue to work for our veterans—Nick’s friends—so that when they return to Maryland, they are welcomed with open arms, not bankrupted trying to supplement the government assistance for service disabilities.
I will work to fund an educational system that teaches our children to think critically so they can learn to make rational decisions about important issues that will affect their lives and the children’s lives;
I will work to attract and keep good businesses in Maryland. I will fight polluters who profit by poisoning their neighbors.
I will work to ensure that every person in Maryland has access to affordable, quality health care—without exception—and that businesses that provide coverage can do so affordably.
I will work for an efficient, responsible government that is open to public scrutiny, so that informed voters can participate in fair elections.
