Expanding Healthcare

Healthcare should be considered a human right. With the rising costs of health insurance, working families are finding it more difficult to get by. Many do not have access to health insurance. We need to expand access to affordable health care.

Large businesses like Wal-Mart who can afford to pay for health insurance should. This is why I support the Fair Share Healthcare Act (S.B. 790).

For small businesses, we need to make a commitment to make health insurance more affordable. We need to provide tax relief so that small to medium sized businesses can provide health insurance to their workers.

We need to expand the emergency clinics throughout communities—not to be used in place of preventive care but, rather, for one-time crises like painful injuries.

We need to restore the cuts to programs that provide healthcare to infants and children whose parents cannot afford it. We need to expand health care to all children in the state.

Stem cell research needs to be fully funded, without restrictions such as those placed on this year.

We need to continue to support and fund initiatives like the Healthy Air Act (S.B. 189) that reduce lung cancer and asthma. A healthy environment is essential for healthy communities and strong families.
