Making Transportation Work

The environment, healthcare and transportation are inter-related. If we had a system that worked, we would not need so many cars, thus cutting down on pollution. If we had a system that took people where the need to get when they need to get there, people would use it.

Dollars that are being spent on new roads or on widening roads could be diverted to public transportation. Investing in public transportation will improve the economy and create jobs.

I will work to expand public transportation in Baltimore and beyond.

In Washington, DC, the Metro is widely used. Baltimore, too, needs a workable system.

There should be a Beltway Route, connecting the arteries into and around the City.

We need dedicated car pool lanes to encourage multi-rider car usage—but we should discourage large polluting multi-passenger vehicles.

The light rail and subway need to be expanded so that they go more places than north-south.

I will work to make our communities more pedestrian and bicycle friendly, which will improve air quality and reduce the need for gasoline, while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
